Can I hold a garage sale?
Yes, however you must have a permit. A permit can be obtained at the Village Hall. The following information must be filed 7 to 30 days prior to the sale date: Name, address, and phone number of the seller(s), dates, hours, and location of the sale, and a general description of sale items. No sale shall be held for more than 2 days nor shall any sale be conducted between the hours of 5pm and 9am. More information can be found here.

What do I do if my power goes out?
Call 1-888-LIGHTSS. This is the quickest way for the electric company to learn about your power outage. You will also get an estimated time of power restoration. You can even call back for updates. Unfortunately, the staff at the police department is unable to get more accurate or up to date information than what is available through 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).

I would like to hunt in Kirtland Hills, what do I need to know?
Kirtland Hills only allows archery hunting of deer. To receive a village permit, bring the following items to the Village Hall: your hunting license, driver’s license, and written permission from the landowner to hunt on their property. Your village permit must be displayed in your vehicle while you are hunting.
To report a deer harvest, please call the Kirtland Hills Police Department at 440-974-9090 (business hours). After business hours contact Central Dispatch at 440-354-3434. An officer will be dispatched to your location to take down the proper information for our records.

How do I obtain a copy of my police report?
Reports can be obtained at the police department during business hours, Monday through Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday from 7am to 3pm. If you call ahead the report will be waiting for you to pick it up at your convenience. An email can be sent to [email protected] with the parties name and date of the incident. There are several options for obtaining a copy of a report. Requestors should refer to our Public Records Policy.

My vehicle was towed. How do I obtain a release?
A vehicle release form must be obtained from the police department before your vehicle will be released from impound. Releases can be obtained Monday through Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday from 7am to 3pm. Please bring proof of ownership and positive identification with you.

How do I obtain a job application?
Job applications can be obtained at Village Hall Monday through Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday from 7am to 3pm.The Village is always accepting applications for part time patrol.

How do I apply for a building permit?
Building permit packages are available at the Village Hall located at 8026 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland Hills, Ohio 44060. They can be picked up Monday through Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday from 7am to 3pm. The application fee will be due at the zoning board meeting.

What are the fees involved in the zoning process?
Official Zoning Information Packet and Forms: $25
Certificate of Compliance*:
Review by Zoning Inspector: $100
Architectural consultant and ARB review: $300
Inspection fees: $200
Occupancy deposit for principle structure: $500 – $3,000
Occupancy deposit for accessory structure: $200 – $3,000
Final grade inspection fee: $300
Variance requests: $150 each
Subdivision fees (minor): $100 plus $50 for each lot
Right of way construction permit: $50
Checks may be made payable to the “Village of Kirtland Hills”.
*If cost of project completion is less than $20,000, the Certificate of Compliance fees are 3% of estimated construction cost, not to be less than $100.

When do the Zoning and Planning Committee, Architectural Board of Review, and Board of Zoning Appeals meet?
Currently, these meetings are scheduled on an as-needed basis. We make every effort to convene the committee as soon as possible after receiving the applications.

How can I found how a parcel in zoned?
With the exception of the south side of State Route 84 (Johnnycake Ridge Road) from Little Mountain Road and east 800 feet which is classified as “Retail Commercial”, all parcels in the Village of Kirtland Hills fall under the category of “Farm and Residence”.

Normally, no. Exterior changes to the structure of your building, fences, walls, additions, sheds, pools, and permanent structures all need permits.

Now that my permit from Kirtland Hills is complete, what do I do?
After issuance of a certificate of compliance/Village building permit, the permit and copies of the plans are to be picked up at the Village Hall. This information is then taken to the Lake County Building Department for the county permitting process. The Lake County Building Department is located at 27 Woodland Road, Painesville, Ohio, 44077 and can be reached at 440-350-2636.
